Introduction :
To celebrate the 25 years of the promotion history, I started watching Osaka Pro because i thought it was a blindspot in the Puro scene, pretty much every big promotions in Japan are covered frequently and their history are well known but promotions like K-DOJO/2AW, Toryumon Japan, Michinoku Pro and Osaka Pro are often missed in that conversation so i think it was a good idea to see what has been missed throught the years and what kind of matches we can find in the promotion.
Everything that i will say in the blog is my own point of view, you can disagree on the things i will say and that’s why i would recommend people to check what interest them if they want to watch the promotion since i’m harsh on some things. I know some people would love some matches that i didn’t liked so that’s why i encourage you to give a chance to the promotion. The Osaka Pro style is clearly inspired by the Lucha style with Super Delfin trying to create something similar to Michinoku Pro but it also has big epic style matches like in pretty much every promotions in the main event scene. The roster also has comedy guys, comedy guys that will sometimes gets serious when they are in serious matches, this is something that i really enjoyed seeing throught this dive. Osaka Pro has some gems, some matches that need to be seen, some great wrestlers that started or joined the promotion so that’s why in this blog, i’m going to do a full review of my thoughts on the best matches and the best wrestlers that wrestled in Osaka Pro and just give my general opinion on the promotion. Let’s start with a quick resume of what is Osaka Pro :
Osaka Pro is a company started by Super Delfin after he decided to leave Michinoku Pro on January 17th 1999. He founded Osaka Pro in March 4th 1999 before doing the first show on April 29th. You can find pretty much everything like comedy wrestling but also serious matches and feud. In August 2007, Super Delfin sold the promotion to Yuji Sakagami and he resigned as president in February 2008. In 2021, Zeus would buy the promotion to bring it back for the Osaka scene. Osaka Pro runned 2330 shows but 164 shows were broadcasted throught TV and 120 shows were available but 44 shows were missing for this dive.
A spreadsheet can be found at the end of that blog with everything i watched and all the recommended match from the promotion history. Now let’s start with
THE 10 BEST WRESTLERS OF THE PROMOTION :
10. HUB (Super Demekin, Goa, Super Dolphin, Zero)
His career is pretty interesting, as Demekin, he is a young guy with a lot of energy, Goa is a pretty good heel with a lot of energy too. And then you have Super Dolphin, which is pretty much the successor of Super Delfin and he literally decided to wrestle entirely like Delfin which is something i was not a big fan off to be honest. But, once he comebacks from injury in early 2007, his style completely changed and here is the start of the greatness of the HUB we all know today. He comes back as Zero and he is already super clean and fast in everything he does and he is almost much more violent than his previous gimmicks, he was totally a different wrestler. And then you have current HUB, that you probably know but he hasn’t lost a step since the awesome run since 2007. Good wrestler that peaks extremely high since he start to go by the Zero gimmick by joining Bad Forces.

w/GAINA (c) vs. Daisuke Harada & Atsushi Kotoge - 05/01/2008
9. Asian Cougar (Kuuga)
I really enjoyed Kuuga’s career in Osaka Pro, he went from a great babyface to a fun heel toward the end of his run. Great high flyer with almost all his matches containing an Swanton Atomico at the outside on chairs. He matched the OPro style pretty well, elevated some great talents and had some pretty nice rivalry like against Bad Forces during 2007. Mostly a tag wrestler before he gets that big run as the JOKER leader, which was a fun run. He would leave Osaka Pro in 2013 after the big exodus to form Dotonbori Pro to create future stars like Yuto Kikuchi, Ryuya Matsufusa or even Harutoki.

w/Tigers Mask & Tsubasa vs. Condor, GAINA & Zero - 15/08/2007
8. Atsushi Kotoge
Oh man i love Kotoge after watching his whole run. He debuted in 2005 and was already the best guy in the promotion while guys like Hideyoshi, Masamune or even Toru Owashi made their Osaka Pro debut that year. Kotoge lately became a fucking CTE machine and i never expected him taking this route but here we are, and i want to believe that’s why NOAH was interested in him. Excellent tag worker but never truly went up in the cards and stayed as a tag wrestler or midcard guy, he should have got way more exposure as a main event wrestler, which is something he never did before NOAH signed him in 2012. Excellent wrestler.

7. Takehiro Murahama
Oh man, what i would have done without this guy at the start of the promotion. Murahama has been the best wrestler of the promotion until he leave in 2005. His debut as a legit shooter and having Different Style matches is incredible, he literally was a big match machine where he would give the best out of Super Delfin in a awesome of series of matches just before (sadly) getting some real pro wrestling training, but it didn’t stopped him to still be the best among everyone. He had a notable rivalry with Naohiro Hoshikawa aswell and it was pretty great. Murahama was a monster and i wish he stayed more into pro wrestling. He stayed my number one for a good amount of time before someone took his first place during May 2009 which is insane. Highly recommend to check his days as a shoot style wrestler, an absolute beast.

6. Black Buffalo
Buffalo was here since day 1. You could always count on him, he is possibly the wrestler with the most heel turn in a career which was quite weird to figure out at the start because he was going heel to face or face to heel during some times. But anyway, i think his best run is at the start of the promotion when he teams up with Dick Togo & Daio QUALLT as LOV and toward the end of 2012. 2000 was his best year, a lot of Osaka Pro wrestlers had their best year in 2000 as a whole. Consistent wrestler throught all his career, he still put some nice performances even today.

w/Dick Togo & Tigers Mask vs. Asian Cougar, Billy Ken Kid & Tsubasa - 29/04/2009
5. Masamune
Masamune is pretty great in Osaka Pro, alongside Hideyoshi he had a bunch of sick matches but he could also deliver in singles matches but mostly in tag matches. Masamune was more a tag wrestler and sadly haven’t got any big opportunity to show his worth in the main event scene. But Masamune is the type of guy that could eat a pin but still deliver a great match with anybody. Consistent all year, great grappler and could get violent by times, this is all i need and that’s why he was one of the best in the promotion history.

w/Hideyoshi vs. Orochi & Tadasuke - 28/06/2009

4. Daisuke Harada
Harada was pretty much the heart and soul of Osaka Pro. Early in his career, he already showed some huge potential as this amateur wrestler and he was really promising. I love his tag team run with Kotoge, they really matched up perfectly together, they were explosive and showed so much intensity but when it came to big matches, Harada was the best, he was so good. He has a lot of sick big singles matches but sadly not enough since Osaka Pro barely aired most of his big run during late 2012 & 2013 before joining NOAH. Still, Harada made a big fan with that run, truly an impressive wrestler to follow. Last thing to note, he was supposed to get a new run in the revived Osaka Pro but the plans stopped when he got injured and was forced to retire due to the injury in 2023.
Match Recommendations :
vs. Billy Ken Kid - 29/04/2010
vs. Black Buffalo - 25/03/2012
vs. Hideyoshi - 18/12/2011
3. Hideyoshi
Hideyoshi is one of the guy i was really excited to see since i love him as Genkai in Kyushu Pro and really enjoy his early work as Daiyu Kawauchi when he was a CAPTURE regular. During most of his run, he teamed up with Masamune and they were by far the highlights when it came to tag team matches before Momo No Seishun made their debut. A really impressive big guy that could throw crazy kicks and slaps by times. He has some remarkable matches, great stuff all over the years including a true classic and a good championship run even if we don’t have it in full (thanks to OPro himself). Truly a run that impressed throught the years.
Match Recommendations :
w/Masamune vs. Shisa BOY & Super Shisa - 18/06/2010
vs. Tadasuke - 27/05/2007
w/Masamune (c) vs. Kei Sato & Shu Sato - 22/04/2007
2. Tigers Mask
It wasn’t easy for Tigers in the start, a young masked guy with a baseball shirt but the moment he decide to remove that shirt in his first big match against Billy Ken Kid in 2007, this was the revelation, the young Tigers finally became the Tigers i know, the start of his prime and since then, he was more consistent, putting great performances after great performances. This match really blew my mind and you will see why i did liked it so much in this blog. But since that match, everything has been pretty good, he started kicking hard and dropping people on their head and that simply rules. His current run in the revived Osaka Pro might be my favourite run of his even tho i really love his 2007 run. His career in OPro is just so fun.
Match Recommendations :
vs. Billy Ken Kid - 14/08/2011
vs. Yuto Kikuchi - 21/05/2023
w/Asian Cougar & Billy Ken Kid vs. Condor, GAINA & Zero - 27/05/2007
1. Billy Ken Kid
Without any hestitation, the ace of Osaka Pro wrestling and pretty much the face of the Osaka scene is number one. Honestly it takes time before he finally find himself before starting his fantastic run and being the Billy that we all know today. The first heel turn in 2006 is truly a breathe of fresh air, it’s the start of his greatness and since then, he kept working and being better and better and by being the best epic style match wrestler out there. Billy pretty much have all the best match of Osaka Pro, he is literally everywhere and even when he isn’t in big matches, he keeps putting great performance and that was honestly awesome to see. Billy still goes hard even today when he recently had this well-liked match against current Osaka Pro Lighweight Champion Ryuya Matsufusa. An amazing taht truly grew on me after this dive.

vs. CIMA - 18/06/2010

w/Tigers Mask vs. Black Buffalo & GAINA - 14/07/2007
w/Black Buffalo (c) vs. Flash Moon & Tigers Mask - 26/02/2006
THE 16 BEST MATCHES OF THE PROMOTION :
16. Asian Cougar, Billy Ken Kid & Tigers Mask vs. Condor, GAINA & Zero - 27/05/2007
The opening sequence between GAINA & Tigers is so good, awesome grappling with Tigers who keeps holding and focus GAINA’s arm. The rest is a big fast paced affair with everyone shining. Zero which is Super Dolphin is excellent in it, he literally changed his whole style by being more aggresive and doing crazy stuff. Billy once again impress me so much, that heel turn made wonders to him, he is more aggressive now and he looks more intense. Nothing to say about Condor & Cougar, another very clean performance from these two at this point. It’s a super fun 6-man tag that never feels long and that keeps getting better.
15. GAINA & Zeus (c) vs. Flash Moon & Tsubasa vs. Hideyoshi & Masamune - 12/02/2007
OPW Tag Team Title Three Way Elimination Match
Awesome spotfest right here. It’s exactly what i expect from an Osaka Pro multiman tag. No time wasted, just constant fast paced action where everyone shines and does great things. Flash Monn & Tsubasa are awesome as the high flyer face but the two other teams were even better. I love that Hideyoshi & Masamune kinda feel like a face team when they are against GAINA & Zeus and they deliver some big comebacks. I’m not truly sold on that heel ref who is here on every Bad Forces matches (GAINA stable) but he wasn’t bothering here. The final minutes were overbooked but it was some good overbooking where Masamune could shine and they gave us an awesome finishing stretch. It feels great to see such a great match.
14. Daisuke Harada (c) vs. Black Buffalo - 25/03/2012
OPW Title Match
What an awesome match, i wasn’t sure i would have liked that match when i started it but it kept getting better the longer the match went. Buffalo works on Harada’s neck and overall he really beats Harada up with all kind of strikes or big moves. The selling from Harada is so great and i really liked when he had to release the pin out of his Katayama German Suplex for the count of 2 because he couldn’t handle the pain in his neck with the bridge. Buffalo has some awesome fire here, there is those moments when he throws some insane lariats and almost takes Harada heads off. The final minutes got me so pumped, i was cheering for Harada the whole time at the end but Buffalo really did a great performance here and he made me cheer for him too. The false finish doesn’t really bother me but the outcome does a little. But overall it’s pretty much an awesome match, one of the best title match on the company history.
13. Don Fuji & Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Asian Cougar & Kuishinbo Kamen - 18/06/2010
Kuishinbo Kamen, my beloved. I fucking love the start, Kamen gets a huge pop but Mochizuki wants Cougar, he doesn’t buy Kamen comedy shit so he keep kicking Kamen and ask for Cougar before Kamen gest angry and slap the fuck out of Mochy for my biggest pleasure. The whole match is awesome, Kamen is serious, Mochy is a ball of fire, Cougar does his many crazy signature spots on the ropes and Don Fuji was a little Genichiro Tenryu to Kamen with his head kicks or punches. The whole crowd is on fire aswell. Just a fucking awesome match that had no rights to be that good, thanks to Kamen for being serious here, incredible.
12. Shisa BOY & Super Shisa vs. Hideyoshi & Masamune - 18/06/2010
The story of that match is so simple but it was done perfectly. First off, the crowd on that show is so hot, they are split between the Osaka Pro and Dragon Gate crew so they go crazy non stop and it’s also worked as an interpromotionnal tag, so you can see that both teams hate each others and they want to win. Hideyoshi & Masamune are awesome heels, they destroyed BOY on that middle work. Super Shisa was so damn good here by showing a lot of fire, hate but also some really awesome grappling and transition on the mat with Masamune who was incredible aswell. Hideyoshi was such an incredible powerhouse too by throwing or kicking hard. BOY showed a ton of fire in all his comebacks but pretty much everyone were at 100% into the match. There was also a lot of awesome sequences done in a DG style while not doing too much and Hideyoshi & Masamune fit this style perfectly to me. The whole show is to check out, probably the best show that Osaka Pro have done but do not miss that one even with the other matches on the card.
11. Takehiro Murahama (c) vs. Super Delfin - 18/06/2000
OPW Title Match
This is their second match, a rematch for when Murahama beat Delfin a month prior. It was so intense. I love how Murahama just spam Delfin with his punches or kicks while Delfin just try to take him down and go on the mat since his strikes are clearly not the best way to approach Murahama’s offenses so he always goes for the submissions and this gives an awesome clash of style. There’s a huge sense of urgency with Murahama always reaching the ropes after Delfin locks up a submission and Murahama knocked down Delfin few times with his crazy punches combo. Short but absolutely awesome stuff from the ace at this time in Delfin and the outsider in Murahama.
10. Don Fuji & Masaaki Mochizuki (c) vs. Atsushi Kotoge & Daisuke Harada - 31/10/2010
OPW Tag Team Title Match
Excellent spotfest right here with a simple but good story. Fuji & Mochizuki are the outsiders, they beat up Kotoge for a good part of the match and Kotoge is a literal ball of fire in every comeback he does with Harada. The match is pretty stiff aswell, Mochizuki really goes crazy on the kicks and slaps, Kotoge on the chops and headbutts, Fuji on the punches and chops and Harada was the total package while doing a ton of crazy suplexes or impressive moves. The sequences are so damn fast once Momo Seishun gets the upper hand back. The dynamic is awesome and Harada & Kotoge shines so much and shows why they are two of the best in Osaka Pro in 2010 and just as a whole in the company history. Awesome stuff.
9. Super Delfin (c) vs. Takehiro Murahama - 07/05/2000
OPW Title Match
Who would have thought that Super Delfin in a Different Style Fight would have ruled ? This match is so damn good. Murahama is the new comer and literally hannilates Delfin with his strikes like the punches and kicks while Delfin relies on the grappling or the amateur wrestling moves and some awesome takedowns to get Murahama in a submission position. The rounds are worked so well and both shows an awesome intensity in their in-ring. It really blows my mind on how slick Delfin was here and how he adapted himself to the shooter. The knockdowns are also super sick especially when Murahama destroy Delfin with his punches. Overall it was awesome, a really aggresive match where Murahama destroy the ace of the promotion for the first anniversary of the promotion. Even better than their second match.
8. Black Buffalo, Daio QUALLT & Dick Togo vs. Masato Yakushiji, Naohiro Hoshikawa & Tsubasa - 06/11/2000
This one was so good, same show on with a rematch between Delfin & Murahama which was great. This one felt like a huge fast paced spotfest full of awesome moments and sequences where everyone shined and showed sick shit, even QUALLT. Everyone is so good between each others, young Tsubasa is so impressive, Togo & Hoshikawa are working hard even tho they didn’t had a lot of time together. Yakushiji is so sick and you wouldn’t even know it if it’s the first time you see him and Buffalo was just everywhere and he was so great in the finishing stretch. This is the perfect way to close a show with a perfect type of spotfest with things that makes sense while still being mind blowing. Huge rec for the people that likes a good spotfest.
7. Orochi & Tadasuke vs. Hideyoshi & Masamune - 28/06/2009
Osaka Tag Festival 2009 Final Match
Masamune comes into this match with a big back injury that he got in the opener against Black Buffalo & Tigers Mask. The match is built around the injury and Masamune delivers an incredible underdog and selling performance here. He gets his back destroyed even more by Tadasuke & Orochi with some nasty submission or back moves. Orochi & Tadasuke were awesome heels here, keeping Masamune isolated from Hideyoshi and mostly the work on the back. Hideyoshi is a monster here, he isn't there a ton of times but all the hot tags or comebacks to save Masamune are awesome. The match is also pretty fast and the drama was awesome aswell. Matches can be excellent when you are motivated to sell. Awesome match.
6. Dick Togo (c) vs. Billy Ken Kid - 11/02/2010
OPW Title Match
The hype behind this match is real. Togo is such a piece of shit in that match, he use chairs, he remove the corner protection and he removed Billy’s mask like a true bastard, his work on top was simply amazing. The match was pretty much a Billy epic type match and it was done awesomely well right here with Billy being a great underdog, doing awesome comebacks but mostly selling well Togo’s offenses. With the awesome story, the in-ring followed really well, you had big spots like Billy doing a tope into a chair head first, great comebacks from Billy and some really sick near falls toward the end. I wouldn’t argue if you think that this is the best match of the company, it fucking rules and it’s one of the best from Billy & Togo’s career.
5. Black Buffalo, Daio QUALLT & Dick Togo vs. Masato Yakushiji, Naohiro Hoshikawa & Super Demekin - 07/05/2000
The first classic so far and it’s between LOV & the babyface crew of Osaka Pro. This one is breathe taking, it’s crazy non stop fast paced action. Everyone is just on point, QUALLT does his best performance so far, the interactions between Togo and anyone are so good. You also have a young HUB in Demekin who is very impressive, Yakushiji, Hoshikawa & Buffalo are excellent too. It just feels like a big Michinoku Pro tag where they all go at a ridiculous pace while doing crazy moves and spot while still having an excellent notion of selling. The near falls are also awesome. I can’t recommend this enough.
4. Billy Ken Kid & Tigers Mask vs. Hideyoshi & Masamune - 24/06/2007
Osaka Tag Festival 2007 Block A Match
FUCK YEAH. The tag league in 2007 start in a wonderful way, all the matches are worth watching but the main event set the bar very high as i kinda expected. Those 4 guys are at the start of their prime. They work such a fast match with all the kind of stuff that you love to see in a main event, awesome opening sequence, big strikes, big spots, awesome comebacks from the babyface team, some amazing near falls and sequences but mostly no filler sequence or even moves that doesn’t feel important. Everything feels huge and everyone shine. They all have crazy interactions together, Billy is wonderful in that match, really that guy is at the top of his game. Hideyoshi also pull a crazy tope suicida out of nowhere. This was just so damn good and those guys solidify their case for being the best guys out of the promotion history.
3. Billy Ken Kid (c) vs. Daisuke Harada - 29/04/2010
OPW Title Match
Harada comes into that match ready to make the upset, 2010 is pretty much the start of his golden days and he is so damn impressive here. That’s the first time that Harada is challenging for the world title and it doesn’t look like it’s his first time. Billy, once again shows that he is the ace of Osaka Pro and pretty much of the Osaka scene, big match Billy rarely miss during those days and he once again show an amazing performance. It’s a epic style match where everything meant something, everything was so captivating and Harada had the crowd for him toward the end. There is a lot of great strikes, great sequences, great reversals and the end made us all cheer for a potential win for Harada. The big spots are all fucking awesome, Harada does all kind of suplexes and it fucking rules. This match is just so good, amazing stuff.
2. Billy Ken Kid (c) vs. CIMA - 18/06/2010
OPW Title Match
If there was one match i didn’t expected to see here it’s that match. The whole show is awesome, two other matches from that show are on that list and i wasn’t expecting to see that match being the best out of the show. The vibe of the match is insane, both guys are legit pissed off, CIMA doesn’t like Billy slaps at all and it looked like the match turned into a legit shoot and if you know me well, you know that i fucking love when matches have THAT feeling but it’s very rare. CIMA is legit doing insane by slapping so hard Billy or even kicking him right in the head or even punching him full forces. Billy matched the intensity of CIMA and also worked like that in the first minutes before he gets beaten up to prepare his comebacks. His comebacks were awesome, he continue to stiff CIMA and it’s fucking awesome to see. I fucking love those matches where it looks like they hate each others for real, like it truly means something. CIMA played an awesome heel here with his stiffness or when he was able to counter Billy’s comebacks. I also fucking loved the aftermatch. That’s how you work an interpromotional match/show. Brilliant match.
1. Billy Ken Kid (c) vs. Tigers Mask - 12/02/2007
OPW Title Match
This kind of match is why i wanted to start this dive into the promotion, it was for finding those incredible matches that no one knows. This one is simply fantastic. Tigers was on a huge redemption, he lost the Tennozan finals in 2006 against GAINA, he lost all his previous title matches and he got betrayed at the start of 2006 by the man himself, Billy Ken Kid. This Billy heel run was awesome, it’s where the greatness start and i can rightfully say that both of these mens are entering their prime with this match at this point. It’s the first match where Billy fully works the style he is known for, full epic style and this one was incredible and worked perfectly with me. This match was just wonderful to watch. Every moves looks so painful, Billy is an excellent heel and he punish Tigers but Tigers shows so much passion in his comebacks that you’re sure that one move can end the match. This also has a ton of crazy bumps at the outside, apron or even in the ring. They also show a lot of aggresivity where it’s just in the moves or the few strikes. The selling is also awesome and my god i needed that so bad. The finishing stretch is wonderful, it’s exactly what it needed to be with a ton of big moves and incredible near falls on crazy suplexes. After 36mins, Tigers finally finish the story. Maybe he just needed to remove the jersey to be incredible. Joke aside, this was incredible and you need to watch it ASAP.
Conclusion :
Overall, this deep dive has been a good thing to do, i was able to finally see what was the history of a promotion that i currently really like with the revived version. Some years are awesome like everything past 2006 and especially 2000 but there was also some stinky ones like from 2001 to 2003 & 2005, it cannot be perfect everytime. The Revived Osaka Pro has a bright future, it has a mix of the vets with some very young talents that have unlimited potential like Yuto Kikuchi, Ryuya Matsufusa, Harutoki, ARASHI, Goliath (aka Hiroaki Taniguchi from SHI-EN) or even Yasutaka Oosera. And it’s been absolutely awesome to see the Revived version getting more time on TV and potentially get a chance to feature on Wrestle Universe. I would recommend people to check out Osaka Pro, it’s a great promotion that have some awesome peaks but it’s not perfect everytime, like pretty much everywhere.
I mostly recommend you to check the matches i’ve talked about so you don’t have to watch everything like i did and that’s why i’ve also did a spreadsheet with all the matches i watched, all the recommended matches from really good level to all timer level, the best wrestlers and obviously the ranking of the best matches.

If you stayed until the end, i thank you a lot, this took me a good 3 month to watch everything and write this so i hope you enjoyed. Thanks everyone, see you on the next project who should be very interesting and enjoy while it last.
